Case against fake North West police officer postponed─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:57 Tue, 27 Jun 2023
The Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court has postponed a case against a fake police officer in North West, Labius Methlabe, until 7 July 2023 for a formal bail application.
According to the North West National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, Methlabe is facing charges of corruption, fraud and impersonating a police officer.
The 47-year-old was arrested in Boitekong on Friday 23 June 2023 for allegedly pretending to be an investigating officer in a theft case that was opened in September 2022.
It is further alleged that Methlabe demanded R3 000 from a man who was implicated in the matter and that he promised to make the docket disappear.
Mamothame said the matter was reported to the provincial Anti-corruption Investigation Unit and the suspect was arrested during an undercover operation.
Preliminary investigations into the matter revealed that the suspect is not a police officer.
