A Free State man who was stranded in Cambodia is finally back in South Africa.
Xolani Sidwell Fongo arrived back in South Africa five days ago after he landed at the O.R. Tambo Airport in Kempton Park.
Fongo expressed his gratitude and love to all who contributed toward his safe return in a video posted on social media.
The man from the Theunissen-based Masilonyana Local Municipality was scammed into believing that he had secured a job with human resources agents in 2022. Fongo said he did not believe that he would ever come back home after spending so many months away.
Fongo explained how he was tricked by scammers and how he ended up in Cambodia. In his heartfelt plea for help, he said the agents falsely advertised the job to be in Thailand but he ended up seeing himself in Myanmar and which was operated by Chinese syndicates.
In his plea message, Fongo also indicated that he then ended up in Cambodia because his visa was not going to be extended in Thailand and he had to leave the country.
Xolani Sidwell Fongo arrived back in South Africa.
