SANCO in the North West has made a call to meet with MEC Saliva Molapisi and Head of Department Moss Kgantsi.

This follows ongoing allegations of fraud and corruption in the awarding of a R133 million tender to Ndhuna Civil Engineering Services.

The contractor abandoned two projects in the Bojanala district in 2021 citing cash flow and community disruptions, but Department of Public Works and Roads spokesperson Matsube Mfoloe said the contract was terminated due to poor workmanship.

SANCO provincial chairperson Packet Seaketso told OFM News they plan to have a round table dialogue with Molapisi and Kgantsi about the facts.

Seaketso said if the allegations are true charges must be pressed and action should be taken against those in the wrong. Mfoloe admitted the contractor in question was indeed awarded the R134 million for the Khudutswana road project phase 3.

Seaketso said it was disappointing and frustrating to find such fraud and corruption allegations almost 30 years into democracy, adding there was a need to appoint contractors with good capacity and track record.

The Special Investigations Unit was also said to be investigating the matter after an instruction from the Office of the President.
