Thirteen illegal immigrants were arrested following a roadblock on the R70 between Hennenman and Ventersburg on Friday.
During the road block, which was conducted by police and traffic officers, a white minibus taxi was stopped and searched. “There were 13 foreign nationals without documents to be in South Africa and they were arrested for illegal immigration,” said Free State police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng. The suspects will appear in the Hennenman Magistrate’s Court on Monday (21/8).

Two foreign nationals who are suspected of being gang leaders were meanwhile arrested in Welkom during a police operation by the provincial anti-gang unit.
The unit received information about the suspects, who were then arrested at a house in Keerom Street on Friday morning. They were found in possession of firearms and ammunition, which were seized.
