This will be at least the second attempt by the EFF to oust the mayor and speaker of the DA minority-led municipality.

The future of the DA mayor and speaker of the Fezile Dabi Municipality in the Free State hangs in the balance yet again as they both face a motion of no confidence.

The EFF seeks to remove the duo from their positions citing failure to improve the quality of service delivery to residents, among others. This will be at least the second attempt by the EFF to oust Mayor Dennis Khasudi and Speaker Sidney Pittaway of the DA minority-led municipality.

OFM News previously reported that on 22 September the 31 council members failed to convene and debate the motion against Khasudi and Pittaway.

Following the failure of the council to sit and have a debate on the removal of the duo, the EFF led by its regional chairperson April Motaung and Provincial Secretary Malefane Msimanga held a picket to hold officials accountable.

Motaung wants the two gone. “The mayor failed to show decisive leadership and steer the municipality in the right direction, instead the municipality remained stagnant and regressed,” he previously said.

The special council meeting to debate the motion of confidence against them will be held on 30 October at the municipal council chambers in Sasolburg.

This special council sitting comes after EFF scored a victory on a motion of confidence and ousted another DA mayor Jeff Zwane in Metsimaholo.

The African Independent Congress councillor Jack Malindi was elected to replace Zwane, who was ousted through a motion of no confidence brought by the EFF. 22 councillors voted for the removal of Zwane and 12 voted against it.

OFM News previously reported that a forensic report allegedly implicated Zwane and said he interfered with the administration of the municipality and had a conflict of interest.
