Most of the newly registered residents are young people between 20 and 25 years, said IEC spokesperson Elken Topkin. The provincial commissioner expressed his satisfaction with this achievement. “The commissioner is happy with the turnout over this past weekend,”

During the first registration weekend, 73,000 voters visited IEC stations representing almost 10% of the provincial voters roll. The commission thanked the 73,000 voters who turned out at the IEC stations over this weekend.

“We just want to remind all those voters who are not yet registered to do so,” said Topkin. They can visit the IEC’s online platforms. “It’s a fast, free, and simple process and it only takes a few minutes of your time.”

'IEC plans another registration week for February 2024'

The IEC plans another registration weekend in February, the last opportunity for people to be included on the voters’ roll before the general election, which is planned between May and August next year.

“We are looking for those who are still not yet registered to do so in the days to come. Remember our slogan is our democracy and we need to own it.”
