“The accused faces a charge of murder, two of fraud, and one of defeating the ends of justice.”

The case against a North West woman charged with murder and insurance fraud will continue on Friday (12/1) in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mmabatho for closing arguments on her bail application.

Agnes Setshwantsho appeared in court on Thursday where the state called on a second witness from the correctional facility where she is detained.

North West woman accused of murder and insurance fraud remains in custody

“A clinical nurse from the correctional services was called to testify on key factors which prove that the facility where the accused is kept is conducive for a person with her medical condition,” said North West NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame.

“Among some of the things she alluded to was the availability of refrigerators to keep Setshwantsho’s medication under required temperatures. It was also indicated that her medical condition has improved to such an extent that the doctor has altered her prescription.”

‘Setshwantsho is alleged to be the beneficiary of 58 insurance policies’

Setshwantsho is alleged to be the beneficiary of 58 insurance policies through members of her extended family. She was arrested on Thursday 16 November after she was traced in Centurion during a takedown operation led by the police in collaboration with and with the full cooperation of an insurance company.

The accused allegedly made death threats towards one of the witnesses. The Hawks are still investigating the allegations and “action to be taken will be communicated upon completion of investigations”, said Mamothame.
