The City of Matlosana Local Municipality's mayor James Tsolela has welcomed the four cricket teams the Klerksdorp Protea Hotel will host during their participation in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) U/19 World Cup.
The four teams are the West Indies, Scotland, England, and the hosting nation South Africa.
On Friday, Mayor Tsolela officially welcomed the teams during the flag handover ceremony led by the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa.

The tournament started on Friday and will conclude on the 11th of February 2024. The four Klerksdorp-based teams will play their matches at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom.
Matlosana mayor Tsolela has wished all the teams the best of luck in the tournament, and a warm stay in the city.

Bangladesh and Australia have opted to field against Ireland and Namibia respectively.

The tournament was shifted to South Africa after the ICC stripped Sri Lanka of hosting as a result of Sri Lanka Cricket Board-related issues.
A total of 41 matches will be played at five venues across the country.
South Africa opened the tournament with a 31-run win over West Indies on Friday, and will next take on England on Tuesday.
