ANC North West PEC Lekgotla enters day two─── 06:30 Sun, 11 Feb 2024
"We would like to hear the Lekgotla making [announcements] as to how the ANC will effectively deal with GBV."
Today is day two of the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) Lekgotla in Rustenburg in North West.
Tumelo Maruping, provincial spokesperson, says the Lekgotla is expected to assess the state of the organisation and the performance of the government in implementing its Manifesto and resolutions taken in the 2023 Lekgotla as well as directives in between.
Patrick Nono Maloyi, the ANC's provincial chairperson, has taken charge as acting premier for the second time, a move that opposition parties in the province say is a clear indication that Premier Bushy Maape's time of office is over.
Maruping adds in a quest to accelerate much-needed services in the province, the PEC Lekgotla will amongst other things highlight a clear implementation plan on priorities that President Cyril Ramaphosa outlined during the January 8 Statement.

"This includes accelerating infrastructure development, boosting the local economy through massive industrialisation," says Maruping.
Speaking to OFM News, South African National Civic Organisation’s North West spokesperson, Mzukisi Jam, says burning issues that should be part of the discussion are the high rate of unemployed youth, corruption that affects service delivery and gender-based violence (GBV).
"We would like to hear the Lekgotla making [announcements] as to how the ANC will effectively deal with GBV," says Jam.
Maruping further says the Lekgotla will discuss how the province can contribute to finding a lasting solution to the country's energy challenges.
