At least one person has been confirmed dead on the scene after a vehicle overturned and plunged into a spruit on Alexander Avenue in Bloemfontein.
Free State Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Sipho Towa, said the accident was reported at about 03:12 Saturday morning (27/4). It's understood the deceased was trapped inside the car and was declared dead on the scene after recovery. The person was extricated using the jaws of life after the Mangaung Fire and Rescue team, police and EMS personnel were called to the scene.
‘The road has since been reopened’
Two people were moderately injured during the accident and were transported to the Pelonomi Trauma Unit by VR Med and EMS.
Towa said the road coming into Bloemfontein from the N8, near the Salga House junction, was closed after the accident. The traffic was diverted through Mackenzie Road and Fort Hare into town. The road has since been reopened.
