Police’s alleged corporal punishment of learners condemned─── 11:49 Sat, 18 May 2024
“It is disheartening that 30 years into democracy, corporal punishment is still used in schools.”
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the North West expressed shock over the alleged use of corporal punishment at Rakoko Secondary School in the Bojanala district.
According to EFF North West’s spokesperson, Fanon Moema, two boys have been admitted to hospital as a result.
Moema says the EFF strongly condemns the incident.
Moema said information indicates that the two officers were invited to do a search, only for the learners to be assaulted without reasonable grounds.

Provincial secretary Papiki Babuile says they call for a comprehensive investigation into the matter, and that they will provide necessary support to the affected boys and their families to ensure perpetrators do not enjoy any impunity.
Babuile says it is disheartening that 30 years into democracy, corporal punishment is used in schools.
