“We were excited and happy to be able to help those less fortunate.”

Learners from Staats Primary School in Kimberley donated food and warm clothing to those in need during the last week of school at various places in the city.

As winter sets in in full force, the young learners decided to lend a helping hand to those who aren’t as privileged to have a warm plate of food every night or warm clothing.

“The soup kitchen was a very humbling experience in which we all saw how fortunate we all are just by having running water and having food on the table,” said Liyaan Adams (11).

“l will forever remember the experience, we saw people who did not even have containers for the food they would receive. I am grateful to have had this experience and for my teachers and peers for making this experience happen.”

Learners handed over donations that included toiletries, socks, and nonperishable food items, as well as helping out at the soup kitchen.

‘They received an overwhelming amount of support’

Each Grade 6 class took part in the donation and each had their day in which they would visit either the soup kitchen or the old age home, they received their donations throughout their last week of school from various grades and received an overwhelming amount of support.

“We were excited and happy to be able to help those less fortunate,” said Khloe Partridge (12). “It was a humbling experience to witness people with no proper clothing to wear, and no food to feed their families. I’m glad we got this chance to help others and hope to do much more in the future.”
