“The DA wasn’t happy with the three candidates that were submitted after the advertisement of the post for municipal manager, and requested a re-run which was not granted.”
The Litchenburg-based Ditsobotla Municipality has appointed a new municipal manager on a fixed three-year contract effective from Monday (8/7).
Mayor Thabo Nkashe announced that the special council sitting on Thursday (4/7) appointed a substantive municipal manager in terms of provisions in Section 54A of the Local Government Systems Act, No 32 of 2000 and Regulations.
Olaotswe Bojosinyane is the appointed manager expected to turn around the municipality, which has gone through tough times since the 2021 local elections.
‘Bojosinyane will be responsible and accountable’
Municipal spokesperson Puis Batsile said that as the head of administration, Bojosinyane will be responsible and accountable for tasks and functions in the legislation, and those delegated by the mayor and council of Ditsobotla.
Speaking to OFM News, DA Cllr Yusuf Laher said they weren’t happy with the three candidates that were submitted after the advertisement of the post for the municipal manager and requested a re-run, which was not granted.
Laher said they did not further take part in the role to support Bojosinyane’s appointments, citing that they align themselves with principles and laws.
‘The appointment comes at a critical time’
Bojosinyane has previously served in the same position at Kagisono-Molopo Local Municipality in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati.
Meanwhile, Mayor Nkashe indicated to the staff during the new manager’s introduction that the appointment of Bojosinyane comes at a critical time. The municipality desperately needs an administrative head to steer its strategies toward growth and development in the interest of the citizens of Ditsobotla.
According to Nkashe, this appointment will greatly influence and improve the municipality’s financial position and audit outcomes.
‘They hope that he brings change and stability’
North West Chairperson for Economic Freedom Fighters, Shakes Botswe, told OFM News that they welcome the newly appointed municipal manager and hope that he brings changes and stability to improve service delivery for the people of Ditsobotla.
Bojosinyane has also indicated that he boards the Ditsobotla bus drive energetically and enthusiastically to head it in its intended direction.
