“The science community needs to expand, and together, we can inspire even more young minds to join this journey.”

The annual Eskom International Science Fair produced multiple gold medal winners throughout the Northern Cape and Free State regions.

The science fair, which is held yearly, is aimed at developing scientists who are able to identify a problem, analyse information, find solutions, and communicate findings effectively.

“We are thrilled to share that we won three special awards, two category bests, six bronze, two silver, and five gold medals. This leaves Team NC at 100% awards obtained. This achievement is the result of perseverance and never giving up,” said Kimberley Regional Science Fair Director, Odette du Plessis.

The Free State walked away with six bronze, five silver, and three gold medals, as well as two special awards in their respective categories.

The international science fair exposed the learners to socialising with young scientists around the world, allowing them to receive insight into the skills other learners are taught and the reasoning behind why they execute experiments in a certain way.

The winners from each category won various prizes correlating to the category as well as a cash prize to help kick start their science journey.

“I am immensely proud of our learners for representing the Northern Cape with such excellence, to my RSFDs, teachers and mentors – the quality of projects produced are impeccable, and to my delegates, thank you for being my pillars, even through sleepless nights,” added Director Du Plessis

Learners from all over are also encouraged to take part in this initiative and event, expanding their knowledge and getting the opportunity to someday do something amazing.

“The science community needs to expand, and together, we can inspire even more young minds to join this journey.”
