Free State police have asked the public to help find family members of two unknown men whose bodies were found in Ficksburg and Kroonstad.

Ficksburg police have opened and are investigating an inquest case after the body of an unknown man was found near bushes on Harmonia farm in the district of Ficksburg last Monday (19/5).

“This person is not known, but an inquest has been opened to determine the cause of death,” said Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring. “A post-mortem will be conducted after the particular incident.”

“The man was wearing a red, black, and white track suit top with ‘Champion’ written on it, a black and grey tracksuit, and a white sock on the left foot.”

What we request as the police is for families who might be looking for their next of kin, or a relative who went missing, to please contact Det. Const. Saul on 065 556 5630 or 051 933 9701, he said.

Meanwhile, Kroonstad police seek assistance in identifying an unknown body found in an open veld behind Boitumelo Regional Hospital in September. The deceased was seen by a passer-by, who alerted the police.

The deceased sustained stab wounds on the left side of his upper body. He was wearing a black sweater and a T-shirt.

“Upon arrival of the police, they noticed an unknown African male lying motionless,” said Free State police spokesperson Josephine Rani. “He was declared dead by emergency services.

“The deceased could be in his early thirties, and we request anyone who knows someone with the matching description to contact the police.”

Anyone who has a missing relative or knows someone who fits the description, should call Det. Sgt Mphekeleli Nkala on 073 474 5109, or they can call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

The Missing Children SA has tips on what to do when you have a missing relative:

  • Do not wait 24 hours to report a missing child or a relative.
  • Go to your nearest police station and take a recent photograph of the missing person with you.
  • Give a good description of what the person was wearing, their last whereabouts, and any information that may help the police.
