The Free State police are appealing to the public for assistance in their investigation after the burning body of an unidentified man was discovered in the bushes in Phase 6, Mangaung, near Dewetsdorp Road.

According to police reports, a shepherd made the discovery on Tuesday (27/5) at approximately 09:00. 

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the smoldering remains of a man believed to be around 35 years old. He was wearing blue jeans and black tekkies, but no identification was found.

Unclear motive

Mahlomola Kareli, Free State police spokesperson, stated that the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. “Anyone with information that could help identify the victim or shed light on the incident is urged to contact Lieutenant Colonel Thito of Bloemspruit Police Station at 082 526 2691. 

“Alternatively, members of the public can call the national Crime Stop line at 08600 10111 or submit an anonymous tip-off via the MySAPS App. All information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality,” Kareli said.

The police are also urging the public to assist in identifying the deceased.
