Three suspects will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (9/9) after a swift response by the Bloemspruit police led to their arrest and the recovery of stolen livestock over the weekend.

A major stock theft operation was prevented after the Bloemspruit crime prevention unit reacted immediately to the incident of alleged house robbery and stock theft. The operation began after police received a tip-off about suspiciously cheap meat being sold in the Bergman Square-Grassland area, said Lt Col Thabo Covane, police spokesperson.

An operation was quickly launched, with a prospective buyer establishing contact with a seller and being directed to an address in Bergman Square, Bloemspruit.

Police officers responded immediately. They went to the address and found the three suspects, a 25-year-old female and two foreign male nationals, 34 and 37, in possession of eight sheep carcasses and one live sheep.

“The police placed the three suspects immediately under arrest, and the station’s visible policing commander Col Wynandt Moorcroft arrived with experts to process the scene,” said Covane

Three additional live sheep offered to a decoy buyer had already been secured at the police station, added Covane.

“According to the report, the suspects arrived at the plot in Martin Dale and committed robbery with firearms. They then removed 21 sheep from the kraal on Saturday evening (6/9).”

The three suspects are scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, September (9/9) to face charges related to the incident.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old woman is set to appear before the Vredefort Magistrate’s Court on Monday (8/9) in connection with the alleged murder of her boyfriend. The incident occurred last Thursday (4/9), at approximately 7:30 PM, at their residence on Jabafu Street in Mokwallo.

The deceased, 34-year-old Thumello Mokone, and the suspect reportedly had an argument that escalated, allegedly leading to Mokone being fatally stabbed.

He was rushed to Parys Hospital, where he later died from a stab wound to his upper body. The suspect was arrested the same night.
