The Fezile Dabi District Municipality expanded its fleet with the acquisition of three new vehicles to enhance service delivery and strengthen its ability to respond to community needs.

Concerns had been raised about the high costs of maintaining ageing vehicles, many of which had exceeded their lifespan and were no longer reliable for daily operations. The new vehicles, two Toyota double cabs and one Isuzu extended cab, were strategically deployed across various departments, said municipal manager Sipho Thomas.

This is to maximise efficiency, with one specifically dedicated to the office of the speaker to support its important public role. Through the planned distribution of vehicles among departments, the municipality aims to enhance responsiveness, streamline daily operations, and deliver services more efficiently, said Thomas.

“This move represents another step forward in ensuring efficient service delivery and building a stronger, more responsive municipality for the people of Fezile Dabi District.

Vehicles are fully branded

“The vehicles are fully branded with the municipality’s logo and social media details, reinforcing visibility and accessibility within communities. These vehicles will significantly reduce downtime that previously resulted from frequent repairs on older fleet members.

“This procurement aligns with the municipality’s broader strategy of modernisation, accountability, and transparency.” The visible improvements, he added, are part of efforts to rebuild and strengthen public trust.

“These vehicles represent more than just transportation; they symbolise progress and a renewed dedication to serving the people of Fezile Dabi District effectively.”

In March, the municipality took steps to ensure water security for residents of Tweeling and Mafahlaneng with a water infrastructure project that involved drilling twelve boreholes, nine of which successfully produced the required 2 ML of water per day.

Upon completion, this will ensure a bulk water supply for approximately 7,620 residents in the Tweeling and Mafahlaneng areas. The successful implementation of this initiative will play a crucial role in securing long-term water sustainability in the region, said DA MMC for economic development, tourism and infrastructure Nick Muller.

“The project is a shining light of hope for Fezile Dabi and represents huge progress for the area. The DA-led municipality has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering essential infrastructure projects that enhance residents’ quality of life.”
