The infrastructure challenges continue to frustrate JB Marks residents as they face yet another water cuts.

The municipality notified residents of greater Ventersdorp, particularly the town and Tshing areas, of an emergency breakdown at the Water Treatment Plant. The Municipality has decommissioned the new plant to undertake major mechanical and electrical repair works.

As a result, water supply is currently being provided through the old plant, which is unable to meet full demand at this stage, said municipal spokesperson Jeanette Tshite.

“The required replacement parts have been ordered and are expected to arrive tomorrow morning, Tuesday, 14 October 2025. Repair work will resume immediately upon their arrival and is anticipated to be completed as soon as possible.”

Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period to help sustain the available supply until normal operations are restored. The municipality has apologised to the affected community for the inconvenience.

This situation follows a series of pump maintenance projects previously reported across the JB Marks jurisdiction. The ongoing delays and recurring service interruptions have raised concerns about the effectiveness of these interventions, leading to frustration among residents.

These frustrations have also led to residents calling for the two merged Tlokwe and Ventersdorp Local Municipalities to be separated. Often, this frustration leads to violent protests with residents taking to the streets to air their anger and unhappiness with how things are done at the ANC-led municipality.
