Bloemspruit police have urgently appealed to residents to help identify a man whose body was discovered in an open field.

Authorities responded to a tip-off from community members about a body located near Meadows Road in the Martindale area of Bloemfontein on Thursday (8/1). Upon arrival, officers discovered an unknown Black male, estimated to be in his thirties, lying face down on the ground.

Preliminary observations revealed that the victim had sustained multiple traumatic wounds to his head and visible sjambok bruises across his entire body, indicating a violent physical assault prior to his death.

“On 8 January at about 12:00, the police received information from members of the community about a body of a male, estimated to be in his thirties, lying on the open field,” said Sgt Sinah Mpakane.

The motive for the murder has not yet been established. Police noted evidence at the scene, including visible vehicle tracks leading to and from the area.

At the time of his discovery, the deceased was found wearing only a pair of black trousers. He had no clothing on his upper body and was not wearing any shoes.

The authorities are urging anyone who may have information that could lead to the identification of the victim or the apprehension of those responsible to contact the investigating officer, Lt.Col. Rankhala David Ramasoala, on 082 527 7390.
