Theunissen police are investigating a double murder after two people were found shot dead in the local township.
Police arrived at the scene near the Masilo old cemetery in Lusaka Park on Tuesday (10/2) at approximately 00:30 following reports of gunfire. They discovered a white Ashok Leyland Phoenix parked in the middle of the road.
Outside the vehicle, they found the body of a man in his mid-30s with two gunshot wounds to his face. Inside the vehicle, a woman, around the same age, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to her head, leg, and arm.
“Emergency medical services were summoned to the scene, where both victims were declared deceased,” said Free State police spokesperson Sgt Mahlomola Kareli.
The motive for the killings remains unknown at this stage. The identities of the deceased are yet to be formally established. A colleague of the female victim has conveyed his condolences to both families and expressed his grief over the loss. “It is a very painful situation to lose people in such a violent way,” said Lefa Mothai.
The team at Mabodiba Thabana, where Mothai works, joined those mourning the loss of a colleague they remember as truly special. According to the team, her dedication and kindness touched many lives and left a lasting legacy. They affirmed her memory would continue to be honoured by the team she left behind.
