Mangaung metro has issued a 24-hour water supply interruption notice for parts of Bloemfontein, Dewetsdorp and Wepener.

The interruption period is scheduled to begin at 06:00 on Thursday (26/3) and is expected to last until Friday at 06:00.

The disruption is expected to affect those living in the two towns as well as several southern neighbourhoods of Bloemfontein, including Pellissier, Fauna, Uitsig, Vista Park, and Unique Homes, along with surrounding areas.

The metro said the interruption is due to a scheduled electricity supply project by Eskom affecting the Welbedacht water treatment plant. Because it relies on a constant flow of electricity to operate its pumping systems, the water supply to these areas will be cut while the power is offline.

During these 24 hours, residents may experience very low water pressure or have no water at all. Local reservoirs will not be refilled while the pumping stations are offline. Once the power is restored and the pumping operations resume, the water supply will recover gradually as the pipes refill.

Residents are advised to store enough water in advance for essential household use and to use all available water sparingly. Furthermore, it is advised that residents keep all taps closed during the interruption to avoid any water losses or potential damage when the supply is eventually restored.

Meanwhile, the JB Marks municipality has issued an urgent notice to inform residents of an electrical breakdown affecting various parts of Potchefstroom.

This unplanned power outage affects all of Ikageng as well as several surrounding areas, including the Bult, Baillie Park, Mooivallei Park, Tuscany Ridge, and Van der Hoff Park.

The disruption to the power grid is believed to have been caused by a technical fault on a 132kV power line. Technical teams from the municipality are reportedly on-site and are working hard to resolve the issue and restore electricity to the affected households.

At this stage, the estimated time for restoration is unknown, and the metro will communicate further updates as they become available.

Dangerous

Residents are urged to treat all electrical outlets and appliances as live and potentially dangerous during this time, as the electricity may be restored at any moment without any prior notice.

JB Marks apologises for the inconvenience caused by this breakdown and asks for patience while the repairs are being completed.
