The police are searching for suspects following a foiled stock-theft attempt in Campbell.

This incident happened on Thursday (26/3) at approximately 21:00 on a farm in the Campbell area in the Northern Cape.

Officers acted on information regarding a plan to steal 52 sheep. Upon arrival at the scene, police found the sheep gathered in a corner of a camp. The animals had their legs tied with strings, and a portion of the farm fence had been cut.

Investigators believe the suspects intended to transport the livestock shortly before the police arrived. The suspects fled the scene before they could be identified or apprehended.

“No one will enter our area and commit a crime without being detected. We will pursue all those involved and ensure they are held accountable for their actions,” said the district commissioner of Pixley Ka Seme district, Maj. Gen. Nomana Mtukushe.

The 52 sheep were returned to the owner after the scene was processed. Police have advised the owner and nearby farmers to increase security protocols. This advice follows the identification of the area as a hotspot for livestock crimes.

Two other cases of stock theft happened in this specific place during December 2025 and January.

No arrests have been made at this stage of the investigation. Police are currently gathering evidence from the scene to identify the individuals who cut the fence and restrained the animals.

Patrols

In response to the incident, the police have initiated high-density patrols throughout the Pixley ka Seme District. These patrols aim to monitor farm boundaries and the movement of livestock during night hours.

Mtukushe has overseen the deployment of these additional resources. The search for the suspects remains the primary focus of the local detectives.

Meanwhile, Wesselsbron police have arrested a woman and two men for an alleged murder.

The arrests follow a fatal stabbing incident that occurred on Saturday, 29 November, in Kotzé Street, Wesselsbron.

Three passengers had allegedly an argument with Mokobi Masisi, 38, inside a taxi traveling from Welkom to Wesselsbron. The altercation escalated when the passengers exited the vehicle, resulting in the stabbing of Masisi.

Police followed up on community information, which led to the arrests. Nikiwe Mboyani, 20, Simon Mohlabeng, 25, and Collin Mathe, 23, appeared on Friday (27/3) in the Wesselsbron Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.

The Wesselsbron murder case has been postponed to Tuesday (31/3) for a bail application. Police continue to thank the community for providing the information that led to these arrests.
