Two women were walking home from Fleck Street in Dan Pienaar at 16:10 on Monday, 31 August, said Free State police spokesperson Capt. Loraine Earle. They allegedly encountered a man who promised them employment.

“The suspect reportedly accompanied the women towards a … house in Theal Crescent. Upon reaching the vicinity, he allegedly told the women that he required their cellular phones to obtain security access passcodes. The women handed their phones to him.”

The suspect then instructed the women to wait while he walked towards a parked vehicle. The women became suspicious of his actions, whereafter the vehicle sped off. “In the process, the vehicle struck one of the women and dragged her for more than 20 m.”

The driver stopped, reversed and drove around the injured woman before speeding off. The victim sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalised. Police said the names of the victims cannot yet be released.

The police are looking for two Black men who were travelling in a blue Toyota Corolla. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. A case of attempted murder and theft has been opened.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in identifying or finding the suspects to contact Det. Sgt Mvula Ntjoko or Det. Const. Palesa Maleho on 082 043 9522.

Members of the public are urged not to approach or confront the suspects, but to immediately report any information to the police.
