Colours of Unity Family Fun Day set to bring Bloemfontein families together─── SIYAKHOLWA MBATYAZWA 12:42 Fri, 02 Oct 2026
Matsepe Academy of Tutoring is preparing to host its Colours of Unity Family Fun Day at Naval Hill next Saturday (10/10), with families invited to enjoy games, races, mini-soccer, entertainment and a colour splash.
The inspiration came from wanting Matsepe Academy to be more than just an educational institution. Event coordinator Noluvo-Lihle Buthelezi said they wanted to create an opportunity for learners, parents, families and the broader community to come together outside the classroom, have fun and build meaningful connections.
“The academy believes that developing young people is not only about academics. The Colours of Unity theme represents the idea that we may come from different backgrounds, have different personalities and experiences, but we can still come together as one community.”
The idea was to create an event that celebrates diversity rather than allowing differences to separate people, said Buthelezi.
“We live in a time when people can be physically close to one another but still feel disconnected. We wanted to create a space where families can put their everyday responsibilities aside for a few hours and simply enjoy being together.”

People can expect a proper family fun day filled with fun, colour and entertainment. There will be family challenges, games, races and mini-soccer tournaments, as well as refreshment stalls and colour splash moments.
“We want people to come dressed in colour, bring their own families, and enjoy themselves whether they want to participate, support, eat, dance or simply enjoy the atmosphere there.”
The response from the community has been encouraging, with people showing interest in the event and asking questions about what the day will offer.
“We have been working hard to create awareness and reach different parts of the community. We have seen people becoming curious and asking questions about what the day will offer. At the same time, as a first-time event, we understand that building something like this takes time.”
The day forms part of the academy’s fundraising initiative towards its annual gala dinner.
“The gala is an important event for the academy because it gives us an opportunity to celebrate our learners, recognise achievements and bring parents, teachers, tutors, and guests together.”
