The SAPS-Ed Fund will host its third annual fundraising golf day at Bloemfontein Golf Club on Thursday (29/10).

The target is to raise R1.5m or more for educational support, following the nearly R1m raised last year. The fund provides financial assistance for educational purposes and does not limit beneficiaries to obtaining only one qualification.

“Beneficiaries must apply for further funding, which is assessed by a committee before additional support, including for master’s degrees, is granted,” said head of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Brig. Herna Els.

One of the fund’s beneficiaries, Palesa Tsotetsi, completed her master’s degree in medicine at Stellenbosch University in 2025. The fund also supports students pursuing studies in fields such as fisheries, computer technology, law, accounting, business management and science.

A successful golf day earlier in KwaZulu-Natal raised R5.2m. Thursday's fundraising golf day will take place at Bloemfontein Golf Club, with registration starting at 08:30 and a shotgun start at 10:00. Four-ball sponsorship costs R7,000 and includes lunch, dinner, prizes, a golf shirt and cap. Hole sponsorship is available for R5,000, with refreshments provided at selected holes.

Participants will receive golf shirts, caps, goodie bags and wristbands, with golf carts and drinks provided during the event. The day will also include lunch, dinner, prizes and networking opportunities, offering businesses a chance to connect with other industry players and promote their services.

The fund welcomes direct donations and pledges to support its educational initiatives. Individuals and businesses interested in participating, sponsoring a four-ball or a hole, or making a financial contribution can contact deputy provincial commissioner: support services, Maj. Gen. Len Singh, on 082 455 6163.

“The funds provide educational support to beneficiaries, helping them develop their skills, pursue their studies and build successful futures,” said Els.
