North West has officially launched its 2026/27 Safer Festive Season operations, and police are prioritising crime prevention, increased visibility, and targeted interventions against serious and violent crimes.
Deputy minister of police Dr Polly Boshielo, North West MEC for community safety and transport management Tsotso Virginia Tlhapi, and provincial commissioner Lt. Gen. Arthur Peter Adams officially launched the operations at Lehurutshe Sports Ground in Zeerust on Friday (23/10).
North West police spokesperson Cst. Thuto Bobelo said the operations commenced on 1 October and will continue until 31 January.
The operational priorities include increased police visibility, intensified crime prevention operations, compliance inspections at liquor outlets and second-hand goods dealers, as well as targeted interventions to address serious and violent crimes.
“These crimes include murder, rape, Gender Based Violence and Femicide, aggravated robbery, car hijacking, and the proliferation of illegal firearms. The operations also include roadblocks, stop-and-searches, and border security operations aimed at preventing crime, enforcing the law, and ensuring the safety of all road users during the festive season.”
During the launch, divisional commissioner of legal services Lt. Gen. (Adv.) Simemosenkosi Wiseman Chamane presented an overview of the 2026/27 Safer Festive Season operations, outlining the operational priorities and strategies aimed at enhancing public safety.
Adams assured residents and visitors that police officers were ready to implement measures to safeguard communities throughout the festive period. He warned criminals that law enforcement agencies would maintain a strong presence across the province and take decisive action against those involved in criminal activities.

Beyond crime prevention, the launch also highlighted the importance of community partnerships in improving the lives of vulnerable residents. Bobelo said the North West Community Police Forum demonstrated the spirit of Ubuntu by joining hands to improve the living conditions of a vulnerable community member through the provision of a house.
