Knights target better fielding performance─── MORGAN PIEK 14:56 Thu, 21 Feb 2019
The VKB Knights will be targeting an improved performance in the field when they host the Warriors on Friday in Kimberley in the Momentum One-Day Cup.
The Knights' batting and bowling showed a considerable improvement on Tuesday evening during the 3-wicket defeat to the Cape Cobras.
The Knights scored 282 in their innings against the Cobras in the Bloemfontein with Andries Gous (60), Ryan McLaren (56), and Keegan Petersen (52) all contributing with the willow.
The total was perhaps 20 to 30-runs shy on a track which flattened out during the Cobras innings and was not enough to prevent a loss against the Cape side.
The bowling up front was also outstanding, however, there were too many miss-fields or fielders not putting enough pressure on the batsman.
The captain, Pite van Biljon, told OFM Sport that cutting down the three’s and two’s will be important.
“It was definitely a hell of an improvement from the game against the Titans, and we are definitely moving in the right direction.
“With the fielding, we can definitely sharpen up on quite a bit because we left a few runs on the field. There were a couple of miss-fields in the ring, and one or two chances went down.
“These things happen, we train very hard with our fielding and on the day it was tough on the field with the dew making the ball a little bit slippery, but that is not an excuse.
“When it comes to the bowling execution, some bowlers will get it right and others won’t on the day.
Friday’s game at the Diamond Oval begin at 13:30.
