Olivier not available to face the Dolphins─── MORGAN PIEK 15:55 Wed, 27 Feb 2019
The VKB Knights seamer, Duanne Olivier, is not expected to be available for the team’s Momentum One-Day Cup clash against the Dolphins on Saturday.
Yesterday the news broke that Olivier has signed a Kolpak deal with Yorkshire in England, bringing an end to his international career.
Olivier sustained an ankle injury while playing for the Proteas in the Test series against Sri Lanka.
This comes as a bit of a blow to the team who are still targeting their first win of the competition.
While the bowling department has shown tremendous improvement in the last two games, some extra depth wouldn’t hurt.
Especially seeing that the 18-year-old sensation, Gerald Coetzee, was forced to withdraw from the South Africa U19 tour to India because of a side strain.
The Knights captain, Pite van Biljon, told OFM Sport that Olivier is still an asset to any team.
“Duanne will be an asset in any team. He has quite a bit of experience and he is a guy with serious x-factor.
“He is an out-and-out match winner and can swing a game in the matter of a single over.
“It is a bit disappointing that we won’t have him for the game against the Dolphins this week.
“Obviously the news broke that he has signed a Kolpak deal, so I am not sure what his availability will be for us going into the rest of the season.
“When he is available we will definitely make use of him, and it will be great to have him.
The Knights face the Dolphins on Saturday at Kingsmead in Durban.
