The former SA Schools captain was in the teams' plans for the Momentum One-Day Cup, however, a side strain ruled him out of the competition and the South Africa U19 tour over India.

The new head coach, Alan Kruger, indicated that the seamer is in their plans for the shortest format of the game.

During his first-class debut for the Free State towards the end of last year, Coetzee claimed a five-for against Northern by returning figures of 5/33 at the Mangaung Oval.

Coetzee is no mug with the bat either, and in a lot of ways can almost be considered to be more of an all-rounder than just a seamer who know how to swing the willow

Coetzee told OFM Sport that he cannot wait for his opportunity in playing even one step higher than he is used to.

“I cannot wait for this campaign to start.

“It is really exciting stuff to be a part of such a unique and talented squad, with such experienced players that have been around the world and have also played in the best leagues around the world.

“Then to be with the younger guys, who are actually older than me, but have already performed as young players, is really something special.

“I am very excited to be a part of this team and this squad, and really looking forward to seeing what the future may hold for Knights cricket and the young and up and coming players.”

The CSA T20 Challenge starts on Friday evening when the Titans host the Warriors at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The Knights campaign gets underway on Saturday evening when they face the Dolphins at Kingsmead in Durban.
