Proteas lose three in three at World Cup─── 02:02 Thu, 06 Jun 2019
The #ProteaFire took one step closer to being extinguish at the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
The Proteas won their third toss and elected to bat first after having bowled first in the previous two games. The Proteas batting followed similar suite of their previous two games as a top and middle order collapse left the Proteas 89-5 after just 23 overs. All-rounder, Chris Morris, and bowler, Kagiso Rabada, steadied the ship with the two scoring 42 and 31 not out respectively as the Proteas stumbled their way to 227/9 after 50 overs.
Kagiso Rabada did his best with the ball picking up an early wicket, claiming the scalp of Dhawan in the 6th over. All-rounder Phehlukwayo followed suite when he nicked off the Indian Captain Virat Kohli cheaply. Indian opening batter Rohit Sharma set down his anchor, scoring an unbeaten 122 to lead the Indians to a six wicket win and a convincing start to their World Cup Campaign.
The Proteas will have 4 days to regroup before taking on the West Indies on Monday at 11h30 in a must win game. That game will be played on the same ground, the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton.
