The Australia team went into the game well aware of the threat that the West Indies possessed and the game would be closely competed from the onset throughout.

Australia’s skipper Aaron Finch was well aware of the threat that the West Indies possessed and batting first, the Aussies were in a spot of bother at when the West Indies had them 79-5 in the 16th over.

Steve Smith and Alex Carey steadied the ship, carrying the Australian team to 147 before Carey was dismissed for 45. The troubles weren’t over for West Indies as all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile bludgeoned 92 runs in 60 balls to guide the team to 288 all out.

In their reply, the West Indies stumbled to 31-2 when they lost Gayle in the 5th over. Nick Pooran and Shai Hope were the hope for West Indies when the two got together at the crease, before Pooran got himself out on 40 runs, the West Indies 99-3. Skipper Jason Holder took matters into his own hands scoring 51 to aid the West Indies run chase of 289, but the cheap dismissals of Andre Russel and Carlos Brathwaite for 15 and 16 respectively, left the bowlers with too many runs to score, handing Australia a 15 run win. A disappointed West Indies Captain, Jason Holder, says it’s something the team need to learn from.

"Yeah, we definitely missed an opportunity. I just think that's sport."

"We've got to learn from it. It's a bit disappointing to be losing a game like that when we're n full control of the game, but these things happen."

The win sees Australia climb to second on the log, h-behind New Zealand, only by net run rate.
