An unbeaten 97 from Alex Hales helped the Durban Heat to a third Mzansi Super League win on the trot when they chased down 195 to beat the Paarl Rocks by six wickets in Paarl on Wednesday.

With a third successive run chase under their belt the Heat batsmen have shown their worth recently. Captain Dane Vilas believes that there is work to do but is more than satisfied with the path the team is on.

"We are playing some really good cricket and the guys are putting in some great team performances at the moment," Vilas said. "If we continue with the same energy and confidence that we have at the moment we have a good chance of going all the way - that is the plan!

"With saying that there are some good teams that are playing some good cricket."

Despite the batsmen putting their hands up regularly for the Heat, Vilas praised his bowlers for their efforts on a good batting surface in Paarl.

"The way that Malusi (Siboto) and Andile (Phehlukwayo) bowled at the back end to restrict them to under 200 was fantastic.

"That gave us a lot of confidence and momentum going into our batting innings."

Bowling first the Heat side was put under a lot of early pressure by the Rocks openers.

Cameron Delport and Henry Davids both got going although the former dominated the early stages of the contest.

Davids contributed fourteen of an opening stand of 52 before Kyle Abbott knocked him over in the sixth over.

The former Westville Boys’ High School star Delport then continued strongly as he and the captain Faf du Plessis carried the momentum from the opening partnership.

Delport was the second wicket to fall for 84 from 49 balls, bowled by Malusi Siboto. The total was 105 for two in the twelfth over.

Du Plessis and James Vince finished the innings well for the hosts when the captain ended 66 not out and Vince 25 not out.

Wihan Lubbe bowled three tidy overs up front but Kyle Abbott and Malusi Siboto were the only bowlers you pick up a wicket.

Siboto’s four overs at the death only went for 29.

In reply the Heat lost Wesley Marshall for thirteen off eleven balls and then Lubbe fell for twelve off ten deliveries.

When Lubbe fell the score was 67 at the end of the eighth over with Alex Hales flexing his muscles at the other end.

Hales and the in-form David Miller then kept the chase up with the rate.

The pair put on 62 in just over five overs for the Heat before Miller was caught behind for forty off just 22 balls.

Captain Dane Vilas fell for seven before Andile Phehlukwayo joined the Notts man Hales at the wicket.

They knocked off the required runs with seven balls to spare as Hales lofted a Hardus Viljoen delivery over mid-wicket for six.

Phehlukwayo’s nine not out was crucial in supporting Hales over the line.

The Heat now shift their focus to their clash with the Jozi Stars at the Wanderers on Saturday.
