Bitter pill but Triegaardt lauds Knights character─── MORGAN PIEK 18:39 Mon, 16 Mar 2020
The Dolphins and the VKB Knights will not be going head-to-head on Tuesday in the semi-finals of the 2020 Momentum One-Day Cup.
This comes as the sport’s governing body, Cricket South Africa, called off the remainder of the season on Monday afternoon due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
On Monday, CSA, met and it was decided to cancel all domestic cricket in South Africa, and this includes all schools, club and amateur cricket.
On Sunday the Knights beat the Titans by 3 wickets at SuperSport Park in Centurion to book their spot in the last four against the top-of-the-log Dolphins.
The Knights drove down to Durban on Monday only to find out that all cricket has been halted due to the deadly disease gripping the globe.
The Knights interim coach, JP Triegaardt, told OFM Sport that hearing that the semi-final will not take place is a bitter pill to swallow, however, he remains proud of the team’s character.
“We arrived in Durban and hear the news that all cricket has been called off, and it is a bitter pill to swallow but it is what it is. We can only control what we can, and this is one of those things that we can’t.
“This Corona virus is seriously hitting the country and the precaution has been taken and this has seen all cricket called off domestically for the season.
“I’m not sure if these games will be rescheduled. I heard that there might be a possibility but I’m not 100% sure.
“I think that we had really good momentum going into the last four games and building up against this quarter-final against the Titans.
“The guys started believing in each other and themselves, and I think that this really brought out the confidence. This showed out in the middle of the park.
“We were really looking forward to putting up a good fight against the Dolphins. They have been playing some good cricket.
“In the end, we should just focus on what we need to do as a team and get the best of each other. Whatever is lying ahead; we are up for that challenge.
“It is nice momentum going into the off-season and the new season with all of the positives that we collected over the last couple of weeks.
“From my side, I would like to say that the guys showed really, really good character to come back from where they were and get themselves into a semi-final. It shows massive character from them.”
