Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the 2019/20 tournament winners earlier this week and the Central Region’s teams shared the spoils of the white ball competition.

Free State Senior Provincial team finished top of Pool A while Northern Cape finished top of Pool B, this led to both teams being announced as joint winners of the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge.

“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Free State on their victory of Provincial One Day Challenge. This was the first year we had Magnifisan as the sponsor of the team and I am happy that we performed as expected”, commented Chief Executive of Free State Cricket Johan van Heerden.

Edward Mokoenanyana, the victorious coach of the Free State is pleased with how his boys conducted themselves throughout the season. “We started the campaign well. Winning our games with bonus points and it got us where we are. I am very proud of the guys”, commented Head Coach of Free State.

“Winning a tournament like this is truly a great experience, especially after a disappointing performance at the Provincial T20 Cup beginning of the season. Turning that around and seeing the players buying into what we want to do was a great experience. Congratulations to everyone, especially my young side”.

“I would like to congratulate Northern Cape as well, I think they put together a good squad to turn around their cricket and this has truly been a good season for the Central Region”, commented Edward.

“I would like to thank everyone for the support throughout the season, from my assistant coach, Lotli Sesele, the time he spent with the boys in the nets and always going an extra mile in everything he does. This is truly a collective effort, from the selection of the team, the discussions we had with the CEO about the team, Magnifisan’ sponsor, the ground staff and cleaners as well as the Free State staff. This was a great effort from everyone, and I thank all of you”, said Mokoenanyana.

“I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Free State and Northern Cape on their CSA Provincial One-Day success”, commented Free State legend and newly appointed Head Coach of the VKB Knights Allan Donald.

“It is pleasing to see what we are producing at the moment; I think it is even more pleasing to see what talent we have in the Central Region. I had the pleasure of standing in the nets while Free State was practicing, and I am very impressed with what I am seeing. It is exciting to see we have that much strength in the Free State and Northern Cape area”, said Allan Donald.
