Elgar also interested in Proteas captaincy─── MORGAN PIEK 12:11 Mon, 25 May 2020
The Proteas opening batsman, Dean Elgar, has become the latest player to express interest in captaining the national Test team.
The former VKB Knights and Free State cricketer is no stranger to leading the national team after leading the team against England in the first Test at the Wanderers in 2017. Last year, during the third Test against Pakistan, he stood in for Faf du Plessis once again.
The Welkom-born cricketer says leadership is something that comes naturally.
“Leadership is something that I think comes naturally to me, and if I was asked to take the captaincy it is defiantly something that I will think long and hard about.
“It would mean a lot to me, but it is not a job interview and you don’t have a CV that you have to submit.
“You got to respect the people who are making the decisions and whichever they choose is ultimately their choice.
“I will definitely have a long and hard think about it."
Recently Keshav Maharaj and Aiden Markram also expressed interest in captaining South Africa.
