The VKB Knights have welcomed the government’s announcement that sport may resume during Level 3 of the national lockdown which kicked in on Monday.

As a non-contact sport, cricket may not only resume training, but they may return to play, albeit behind closed doors.

Although it is winter, the does mean good news for the planned T20 International series against India in South Africa.

Knights CEO, Johan van Heerden, told OFM Sport that while the news is exciting, they have to be responsible.

“The first pillar of Cricket South Africa is to keep everybody safe and to make sure that we do it in a responsible way.

“Cricket South Africa has been in discussions with the department of sport and they are going to put it very clear on what the conditions will be for us to return to practice and also playing cricket.

“It is very exciting. We had a terrible season last season with it ending earlier and all of that. It feels like everything is returning back to normal, but we have to treat it with all responsibility that we have.”

Meanwhile, the Proteas bowling great, Allan Donald, will head to Bloemfontein on Wednesday to take up the role as the Knights head coach.
