The former VKB Knights all-rounder, Dillion du Preez, will be heading to Greece where he will coach the Athens Tigers in the Greece Premier League.

Du Preez, who also played cricket for the English Country team, Leicestershire and for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, has been named as the head coach of the Tigers.

The 38-year-old has been coaching at the Free State and Knights since retiring from the game in 2017.

Du Preez told OFM Sport that he is excited about the opportunity and hopes to teach the players something about T20 cricket.

“When I got the call to coach the Athens Tigers team I thought it might be too early in my career to take on this role, but to be honest I actually see it as an opportunity to test myself.

“I am very excited to be part of the Greece Premier League and hopefully, with my playing background, I can add some value.

“It’s a short tournament so there won’t be time to do any proper coaching, but a few things I would focus on, will be for the players to have fun, go out and express themselves and hopefully after the tournament they understand their roles better in the T20 format.”

The tournament will be played in Corfu, Greece, from 16 to 28 April 2021.
