The 21-year-old received the accolade on Saturday evening during the annual CSA Awards which was done online.

The former South Africa U19 star captained the Knights during the 2019/20 season on occasion during the absence of Pite van Biljon.

Makwetu told OFM Sport that the accolade is the cherry on the cake following a stellar debut season at the central franchise.

“It’s really special for me to be recognised for the work I put in throughout the season.

“It was special just to be nominated, but to have won the award was just the cherry on the cake for what was a good season for me.

“It is a recognition that my talent and skills are good enough to compete with some of the best in South African domestic cricket, so that makes me excited for the next season.

“The award gives me confidence for the next season, so I am looking forward to it whenever it may start.

“I am looking to go onto bigger and better things next season, but I am really pleased with how things went last season, and to be recognised was special.”

The VKB Knights and Northern Cape all-rounder, Beyers Swanepoel, was named as the CSA Provincial Three-Day Cricketer of the Year.
