English weather wins day one in Southampton─── MORGAN PIEK 08:32 Thu, 09 Jul 2020
The English weather was the big winner on day one of the 1st Test between England and the West Indies in Southampton.
Only 17.4 overs were played due to continued rain showers throughout the day.
At stumps, England were on 35/1 with Rory Burns on 20 not out, while Joe Denly was unbeaten on 14.
Following the days play, English wicketkeeper, Jos Butler, admitted that is was a frustrating day of play after such a long wait.
“It was a frustrating day. It was bound to happen after such a long wait for cricket. But everyone is just delighted to be back.
“I know there has been a lot of hard work to get the game on and we're grateful to the West Indies for coming over.”
The Windies seamer, Shannon Gabriel, who bagged the wicket of opener Dom Sibley for a duck says it was that tough going on and off the park throughout the day.
“It's been a bit tough, coming off and on, but we've been doing well so far. We just have to keep switched on when we come back on.”
Day two at the Ageas Bowl is set to get under at 12:00 on Thursday afternoon.
