The West Indies are in control of the 1st Test of against England at stumps on day two in Southampton.


The English resumed their first innings on Wednesday but were bundled out for a meagre 204.

The Windies skipper, Jason Holder, was the star of the show with a career-best of 6 for 42 runs in 20 overs, while Shannon Gabriel claimed four scalps for 62 in 15.3 overs.

The English captain, Ben Stokes, was the best contributor with the willow with 43 runs, while the wicketkeeper, Jos Butler, scored 35.

Following the day’s play, Holder, that he had ticked one box so far in the series.

“I enjoyed the surface and I enjoyed the conditions.

“I hadn't recorded a five-wicket haul during our last trip here.

“One of the things that I always strive to do, particularly when I play against England is to score a hundred against England, and obviously to get a five-wicket haul against England.

“I've ticked one box so far, so I guess now it's for me to knuckle down and get a hundred."

The Caribbean’s resume their 1st innings at 12:00 on Friday on 57/1 which Kraigg Braithwaite on 20, while Shai Hope is on 3.

Jimmy Anderson managed to claim the only wicket for England when bad light brought play to an end.
