The VKB Knights seamer, Gerald Coetzee, boarded a flight to Pretoria this morning where he will be competing in the Solidarity Cup this weekend.

The world’s first and unique tournament will feature three teams competing against each other in a single match.

Coetzee will link up with Kagiso Rabada’s Kingfishers where he comes in as a replacement for the Proteas seamer, Chris Morris, after the latter withdrew.

Knights CEO, Johan van Heerden, told OFM Sport that the 19-year-old has the potential to become a top international all-rounder.

“It really came as no surprise when Gerald was called up to play in the 3TC competition that will be played over the weekend.

“We are very excited about it and it just so nice to get cricket started again I think we all cannot wait to see how it will pan out and see how it will work.

“As an all-rounder I think the inclusion of Gerald just shows the value he would bring to any team.

“If that is one of the things we are definitely falling short on in the Proteas is a quality all-rounder that make hundred with the bat and that can also take five wickets.

“He richly deserves the honour to be involved and we are all greatly anticipating the weekend and we wish him all the best.

“Ja, cricket has started!”

The other two teams competing are the Eagles led by AB de Villiers and Kites under the guidance of Quinto de Kock.

Saturday’s match at the SuperSport Park in Centurion gets underway at 11:00.
