The pressure is on the West Indies to try and avoid a series defeat with two days remaining in the third and final Test against England being played at Old Trafford in Manchester.

At stumps on day three, the Windies still needed 389 runs with eight second-innings wickets in hand.

On Sunday the English declared their second innings on 226/2, with Rory Burns scoring 90, Dom Sibley adding 56, while the captain Joe Root was unbeaten on 68.

The star of the day was, however, the English seamer, Stuart Broad, who was in a destructive mood with the ball. The tall bowler claimed 6 Windies scalps for just 31 runs in 14 overs. It was his burst of 4/11 in 22 balls which made the difference.

Following the day's play, Burns lauded Board for his outstanding efforts with the willow.

“He is bowling very nicely, isn't he? The way he is bowling at the minute, particularly to left-handers, makes it a very difficult place up the top of the order.

“The angles he creates makes you feel like you always have to play it as he has the ability to swing the ball and then straighten it up.

“He can then also come the other way with the leg-cutter which makes it a very difficult challenge.

“Opening the batting is all about controlling the top of your off-stump and knowing where that is and Broady is always challenging that.”

The Windies resume their innings on 10/2 on Monday, with Kraig Brathwaite and Shai Hope the men at the crease on 2* and 4* respectively.
