The home of Lancashire cricket has been a good hunting ground for the host over the last few weeks after winning the 2nd and 3rd Tests to best the West Indies 2-1.

The Windies did win the 1st Test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

English seamer, Chris Woakes, says that it will help if they manage to start a series on a positive note for a change.

“We’ve done that quite a lot in the past, but I think that we rather want to win the first Test. That is for sure.

“That does show good character, and it does show that we’ve got the grit in the dressing room to come from behind.

“As I said, we would like to start the series better and get our foot in the door so to speak. Start the series a bit better and not have to come from behind.

“It’s is only a three-match series and you want to get that first win under your belt early to give yourself a bit of breathing space.

“Hopefully we will put in a star performance this week.”

Play in Manchester is scheduled to start at noon on Wednesday. The 2nd and 3rd Tests against Pakistan will be played in Southampton.
