Anderson proves his worth─── 09:05 Fri, 14 Aug 2020
The weather had the final say on day 1 of the 2nd Test between England and Pakistan at the Ageas Bowl, in Southampton.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision seemed to backfire and Shan Masood, who scored a hundred in the 1st Test, was dismissed by James Anderson for just 1.
The two Ali’s, Azhar and Abid, went about rebuilding for the visitors before captain Azhar Ali became Anderson’s second victim.
Abid Ali went on to score 60 before he was dismissed by Sam Curran.
A combination of rain, bad light, and fears of a lightning strikes brought a close to the day’s play with Pakistan on 126/5, Anderson finishing day one with 2 for 35.
England all-rounder, Sam Curran, says he was shocked to hear questions being asked over Anderson’s career
“I was pretty shocked about all of the stuff that is going on about it.
“He is such a world-class bowler, and I think if anyone doubts him, is very sensible because he proved today again how world-class his he is
“He is approaching 600 which really exciting for all of us, and I am just enjoying having him around and trying to learn from as well.
“He was out there today helping me through my spells and picking their brains.
“It’s just great for me.
“He just showed his class and hopefully he will pick up a fiver and creep up to 600.
The 38-year-old Anderson is just 8 wickets away from becoming the first seamer to bag 600 Test wickets.
Day 2 of the 2nd Test between England and Pakistan is set to get underway at noon.
