Traditionally the awards mark the start of the Knights new campaign, while also honouring the players’ contribution to the sport of the past season.

While there was no silverware this past season, several players excelled, including the captain, Pite van Biljon, who made his long-awaited Proteas debut in the T20 International series against Australia.

Van Biljon, who is still recovering from surgery to his shoulder, told OFM Sport that he and the rest of the team are ready for the new campaign.

“The shoulder is coming on nicely, but I am still busy with rehab.

“My return to training date is at the end of this month, so I’ve started falling in with hitting a few balls, and I will start in the gym tomorrow and see what I can do while continuing with my rehab for the next month or so.

“It is a slow process, but it coming along nicely.

“With regards to the season, we’ve been given a provisional date for the start of November for the four-day cricket. Not sure what the structure or the fixtures look like yet.

“I think the semi-pros are looking at January for their season to start.

“The guys are all busy and training and the awards function will be on Wednesday night. Usually, it’s a good get-together and a little team builder.

“We’ve been busy in our groups of two or three players in training, and with on-field sessions as a group. The guys are busy and are looking really good. It looks like we have a really good squad, so we are just basically waiting for the season to start.”

The awards get underway at 18:00 on Wednesday evening.
