MSL T20 postponed to 2021─── MORGAN PIEK 09:29 Tue, 29 Sep 2020
Cricket South Africa has confirmed that the Mzansi Super League has been postponed to 2021. This comes in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the crisis within the governing body.
Recently it was revealed CSA had failed to secure the broadcasting rights of the T20 tournament.
Travel restrictions globally have also made it near impossible to secure the participation of international marquee players.
Acting CEO of CSA, Kugandrie Govender, confirmed that a franchise T20 tournament will be played next year.
“As the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in India in October to November 2021, we understand the importance of providing domestic cricketers the opportunity to impress for selection.
“Therefore, in lieu of the MSL, CSA will stage a single-round domestic franchise T20 competition early next year.
“This will give players ample time to prepare and stadiums the chance to recover financially by welcoming fans back to support their favourite domestic players.”
The 3rd edition of the MSL T20 would have welcomed the entry of the VKB Knights and Border to the competition for the first time.
