Bloem set for start of cricket season | News Article
Mangaung Oval - CSA

The domestic cricket season gets underway this morning with round one of the CSA 4-Day series being played across the country.

For the VKB Knights, they will be playing at home in their first game when they host the Warriors at the Mangaung Oval.

Over the weekend, the Knights coach, Allan Donald, indicated that the pitch in Bloemfontein is in a superb condition and they will most likely have a bowl first if they win the toss.

The groundsman at the Mangaung Oval, Nico Pretorius, told OFM Sport that the pitch had a good rest during the lockdown.

“Everything started growing nicely, then it just started to pull back a little bit because of the late cold weather we had.

“Otherwise, the square is looking good and ready.

“It is a normal deck in Bloemfontein which will also be a good cricket pitch.

“Let's see what happens. The guys haven't really played, apart from a few practice games.”

Meanwhile, the Warriors travelled to Bloemfontein with a somewhat depleted squad after six players weren’t able to make the trip due to Covid-19.

Aya Gqamane and Lesiba Ngoepe both returned positive results during the last round of testing, while four other players were forced to self-isolate after coming into direct contact with the pair.

This includes the captain, Yaseen Vallie.

Play is scheduled to start at 10:00.
