The VKB Knights declared their second innings on 208/4 after lunch on day three to set the Dolphins a target of 457 runs to win the CSA 4-Day game being contested in Bloemfontein.
The Knights called halt to their second innings after the break, leaving them a day and a half to bowl the visitors from KwaZulu-Natal out.
The captain, Pite van Biljon, top-scored for the host with a knock of 93-runs before being dismissed by Senuran Muthusamy.
Farhaan Behardien in his turn contributed with 50* before the declaration.
The Dolphins, who scored just 162 runs in their first innings didn't get off to a good start after the opening batsmen and wicketkeeper, Grant Roelofsen, was caught out for a duck by Alfred Mothoa off the bowling of Migael Pretorius.
