1st ODI between SA and England postponed─── MORGAN PIEK 12:59 Fri, 04 Dec 2020
The opening game of the three-match One-Day International series between South Africa and England has been postponed. This is due to a positive Covid-19 case in the Proteas camp.
The match which was scheduled to be played at Newlands in Cape Town Friday has now been postponed to Sunday.
The series will still feature three games, with the matches now taking place on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday.
Cricket South Africa and the England Cricket board have both agreed to the revised schedule.
CSA confirmed the news via a brief statement.
“Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the England Cricket Board (ECB) would like to announce the postponement of the first Betway One-Day International (ODI) of the three-match series to Sunday, 06 December 2020.
“This decision results from a player from the Proteas team testing positive for COVID-19 after the teams’ last round of scheduled testing performed on Thursday ahead of the ODIs.
“In the interests of the safety and well-being of both teams, match officials and all involved in the match, the Acting CEO of CSA, Kugandrie Govender as well as the CEO of the ECB, Tom Harrison, have agreed to postpone the first fixture to Sunday. “
Sunday’s 1st ODI in Paarl will start at 10:00.
The amended tour dates are as follows:
Sunday, 06 December 2020 – 1st ODI, Boland Park, Paarl (Day Match)
Monday, 07 December 2020 – 2nd ODI, Newlands, Cape Town (Day-night Match)
Wednesday, 09 December 2020 – 3rd ODI, Newlands, Cape Town (Day-night Match)
